One area that has a significant impact on the long-term wellbeing of the employee is often overlooked. For example, did you know that if a US citizen resides in Canada, their broker in the US is no longer able to hold the IRA or 401k? In this case, the client will be given 60 days' notice to move the IRA or 401k or it will be cashed in and a check sent to them. This understandably can cause a lot of upset and unnecessary angst.
Or if a Canadian citizen is moved to the US, they are no longer able to have non-registered investment accounts in Canada? This could cause considerable loss if the accounts are moved to the US and transferred to US dollars.
There are many such regulations that have an impact on the transferred employee and this is one area employers fail to assist their employees.
