CERC Webinar Series Introduction to International Payroll and Reporting
Program Overview: This three-part webinar series is designed to provide an overview of a variety of complex issues in international payroll, withholding and reporting for Canadian companies that have a mobile workforce. The webinars will focus on technical tax training related to Canadian inbound and outbound employees, using a case study approach where appropriate. The course is targeted to global mobility managers, human resources professionals and payroll specialists who wish to improve their knowledge of current Canadian cross border payroll withholding and reporting requirements, to ensure corporate compliance in this complex area of mobility management.
Webinar 1: 2-3 pm ET Thursday November 30, 2017 At the conclusion of the first session you will: - Learn the basic principles of Canadian taxation - Become familiar with concepts related to international payroll - Understand the difference between various mobility policies and implications for Canadian payroll - Understand Canadian payroll withholding requirements - Be able to determine if various compensation elements are taxable or non-taxable in Canada - Understand basic principles of tax equalization, hypothetical tax and tax gross up
Webinar 2: 2-3 pm ET Wednesday December 6, 2017 At the conclusion of the second session you will: - Become familiar with shadow payroll process - Understand Canadian waiver processes for residents - Recognize international compensation items that may require additional review with respect to reporting and taxability in Canada (i.e. contributions to foreign pension plans, foreign deferred compensation arrangements, etc.) - Understand Canadian Social Security withholding tax requirements and the process for obtaining the Certificate of Coverage - Obtain basic knowledge of tax treaty and totalization agreements
Webinar 3: 2-3 pm ET Wednesday December 13, 2017 At the conclusion of the third session you will: - Understand implications of business travelers to Canada - Become familiar with Canadian waiver process for non-residents - Learn the basic principles of directors’ compensation reporting - Become familiar with taxpayer audit issues - Learn common tips and pitfalls of international payroll
