Program Overview:
This three-part webinar series was designed to provide an overview of a variety of complex issues in international tax, immigration, and employment law for Canadian companies that have cross-border remote workforce. The webinars focus on technical discussions and are presented in a roundtable format where international laws as well as practical considerations will be reviewed with participants.
Webinar Descriptions
Webinar 1 - Tax: Monday, December 14, 2020
Critical to the WFA structure is understanding where both personal and corporate tax obligations are triggered, and how payroll registration and indirect tax obligations are impacted depending on the country where the remote employee is performing the service. During our discussion we will review technical aspects to be aware of, questions to be asking your business unit leaders and practical considerations to be reviewed during policy design.
Webinar 2 - Immigration: Tuesday, January 12, 2021
Remote work arrangements may create the need for business visitor and work permit eligibility assessments, as well as a review of immigration compliance considerations related to changes in work location. In this session we will discuss immigration implications of working from anywhere and as well as best industry practices.
Webinar 3 - Employment & Labour Law: Tuesday, January 19, 2021
The interplay between local and foreign labour standards will present new legal compliance in more WFA arrangements. A consideration of contract and workplace policy development, compensation structures, performance and culture management and union negotiations will be necessary and will be the topic of our discussion during this session.
